The Alexander Technique
The Alexander Technique is concerned with the re-discovery of our natural poise and balance, and the conscious control of ourselves. For various reasons many people lose this delicate balance along the years: it becomes less efficient.
There is a wonderful network in our brain, a circuit that can shift between various functions such as seeing, hearing, touch, smell, taste, movement, thinking, speaking and so on. Our senses are fully automated. We become used to excessive muscle tension and stress, when moving as in our thinking patterns, therefore our sensorial feelings get disturbed.
We get used to our necessary and unnecessary responses to stimuli of our daily life.
We usually have little awareness of the use of senses (sensory) and muscles (motor). So we are increasingly moving from an automated manner without conscious attention to the signals we receive from our proprioceptive senses.
